Peak District
Bluebell Cottage is ideally situated for visiting the following local places of interest:
Chatsworth House
Set in the heart of the Peak District National Park, 1/2 mile from Bluebell Cottage, Chatsworth is one of the Treasure Houses of England.
Known as one of the wonders of the Peak, Chatsworth House in Derbyshire is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The house and gardens have attracted visitors, from all over the world, for many generations.
Throughout the house there are paintings, tapestries and fine pieces of furniture. The sculpture gallery contains magnificent specimens from Classical times, to the present, and the library contains one of the greatest private collections of books, prints and Old Master drawings in the world.
Peak Rail
In 1968 the railway between Matlock and Buxton through the Peak National Park was closed and lifted. This was once part of the Midland Railway's line between Manchester Central and London St.Pancras. In 1975 a group of enthusiasts formed the Peak Railway Society with the aim of re-opening the line. Initially a Steam Centre was opened at Buxton, attention later moved to the southern end of the line, where undergrowth was hacked away and rails reinstated. Services commenced between Matlock and Darley Dale in 1991. The northern extension to the site of the former Rowsley locomotive depot saw its first passenger trains in 1997, where further facilities are currently being developed.

Haddon Hall
Haddon Hall has proved a popular choice with film-makers over the years. No other medieval house has so triumphantly withstood the ravages of time
and it is therefore the perfect setting for a period drama. Feature films and television productions shot at Haddon include: Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (1996); The BBC's production of The Prince and the Pauper; Granada Television's Moll Flanders; and Elizabeth (1999), directed by Shekhar Kapur and starring Cate Blanchett, Joseph Fiennes and Lord Attenborough. For more info, check out www.haddonhall.co.uk
Matlock
Matlock is situated on the edge of the Peak District, surrounded by the cities of Birmingham, Manchester, Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham. Make the most of this very beautiful area and visit the facilities that are available.
Matlock is in many ways unique. It lies in the Derwent Valley, at the southern end of the Pennines, the backbone of England, indeed the Pennine Way starts some 20 miles North at Edale. The town enjoyed prosperity at the turn of the century when the hydros that once dominated the town were full of people taking the waters for the benefit of their health.
The National Tramway Museum
There are electric trams running every few minutes through the beautiful Period Street, and up and on to open countryside and panoramic views. And what a variety of trams to see! Open, closed, double-deck, single-deck, horse drawn, steam and vintage electric. Trams have been carefully selected and collected from Prague to Portugal, South Africa to Southampton and New York to Yorkshire! The indoor attractions are equally beguiling! Our vast Exhibition Hall houses impressive displays, and offers an exciting opportunity to 'visit' a turn-of-the-century trade exhibition. A stunning light and sound setting for the dramatic 'Tram at Night' experience.
